Junk Lead

Short definition

A lead that can never convert because the record itself is invalid, fake contact details, a test submission, a bot fill, or a duplicate of an existing lead.

01In practice

How teams actually use it.

A junk lead is different from a bad-fit lead. A bad-fit lead is a real person who is not your buyer; a junk lead is not a workable record at all. Junk arrives from bot form fills, mistyped or deliberately fake phone numbers, test submissions, and duplicate entries created when the same enquiry lands through two channels. The cost is rarely the lead itself. It is the rep time spent discovering it is junk, and the way junk inflates every conversion metric that uses total leads as a denominator. Leadkaun detects junk on insert: Indian phone formats are normalised and validated, duplicates are caught before they reach a rep, and junk is graded F so it never enters a Priority Queue.

02Worked examples

Three ways it shows up.

  • 01

The same enquiry submitted through a website form and a WhatsApp message becomes one lead, not two.

  • 02

A 10-digit number that fails Indian mobile validation is flagged before a rep dials it.

03Check it yourself

How to tell where you actually stand.

Junk is worth measuring precisely because it is paid for.

  1. 01Take one week of enquiries and mark the ones that were never contactable, wrong numbers, tests, bots.
  2. 02Trace them back to where they came from.
  3. 03That is spend with a known destination, and it usually concentrates in one or two places.
